Senior League Division 1A

Our seniors travelled to Ballyjamesduff on Sunday morning last and came away with a draw. With the help of the wind we raced into a seven point lead at half time. The home side rallied but the Gaels who were still three points ahead going into injury time conceded a goal at the death. Well done to the players and management.

Junior B Championship

Our junior B team had a comfortable home victory over Ballinagh in the second round of the junior B championship on Wednesday evening last. We raced into the lead early on and consolidated our position as the game unfolded.

Gerry Reilly Tournament

Congratulations to our players Evaan Fortune and Ciaran Curry who were on the Cavan panel which defeated Dublin in the final of the Gerry Reilly tournament by 2-12 to 0-8 on Sunday last and so retained the county under-16 title. Well done to all the players and the management.

Irish Heart Foundation Collection

Thanks to all the club volunteers who offered their services for the church gate collection last week end in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.

Summer Camp

Cavan Gaels are organising a Summer GAA Camp in Terry Coyle Park on Monday 17 August and Tuesday 18 August. At this camp boys and girls can play football, camogie and rounders in a safe and fun-filled environment and a happy family atmosphere. Parents are asked to take note of the dates for the camp. Please contact Mark Leddy: 087-8596498 for any details about the camp.

Bingo

Please note that our bingo continues in the Farnham Arms Hotel on Friday next 31 July at 9pm. €2170 must be won every Friday night. Thanks to our bingo patrons for their consistent support and to all our stewards. Our club lotto is on sale at bingo every Friday night.

Sympathy

Cavan Gaels would like to extend its sympathy to the family of Sarah Doonan, Fairview on her recent death. Sarah was the mother of James Doonan who starred on Cavan Gaels' teams for many years at all under-age levels and at senior level culminating in his captaining his club to a senior championship victory over Mullahoran in 2003. Sarah's late husband Hughie played for Cavan Harps and Cavan Gaels and was a brother of Willie who played for Cavan Harps and Cavan Slashers and managed Cavan Gaels on his return from England. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.

The fourth issue of our club newsletter will be published at the end of July. The editorial committee of Rebecca Higgins, John McHugh, Anne Marie Sexton and J.J. Reilly would welcome any material or suggestions for this forthcoming issue or future issues. If you're abroad, please bring a Gaels jersey with you and send a photo of the jersey being worn to [email protected] for possible inclusion in future issues of our newsletter. If you would like each issue to be emailed to you send your email address to Anne Marie Sexton on 087-2288889. If you want a hard copy, contact one of the above committee. Bail ó Dhia ar an obair.

First Aid/CPR

Club members and especially coaches are asked to note that a First Aid course, including a module on CPR, will be organised in Terry Coyle Park in the very near future. With so much emphasis nowadays on the importance of being able to administer CPR, this course is very timely. If you wish to do this course, please contact Mark Leddy on 087-8596498.

Club Volunteers in action!!

A sincere thank you to all our club volunteers- current players, executive members, some club coaching staff and other members- who all are putting their painting skills at the disposal of the club in order to expedite the development of the inside of our new complex. This is a very welcome development. Hopefully members with other necessary skill sets will follow the example of the painters and will volunteer their services if called upon in the certain knowledge that in doing so they are making an invaluable contribution to the development of the complex and to their club. Thanks to Niall O Riordan, Cavan Gaels Development Officer, who is coordinating all the club voluntary effort. Our new shop and turnstiles are already in operation. Thanks to all those who have already supported our development through becoming Friends of Cavan Gaels. The money from this source along with our Sports' Capital Grant has enabled us to proceed with the building. We urge others who have not joined so far to consider signing up in the knowledge that, by so doing, they will be making a significant contribution, not only to the Terry Coyle Park development, but to the long term development of our young boys and girls.

County Minors

Best of luck to our county minor representatives Luke Fortune, Shane Fortune and Fintan Carolan as they prepare for their All-Ireland quarter-final against Leinster champions Kildare on Monday 3 August.
