Roscommon are still smarting from their surprise Connacht SFC semi-final defeat to Sligo and they face a familiar foe in Cavan today.

This is the fifth meeting of the two counties in championship and league in the past 18 months and they finished level when they met on the opening day of Division 2 at Kiltoom back in February - Roscommon 1-11, Cavan 0-14.

Last year John Evans masterminded a  0-16 to 0-5 win for the Rossies at the same stage of the qualifiers but Cavan

"It was the manner in which we went down to Roscommon last year that was the disappointing thing," Breffni County selector Anthony Forde outlined.

"Probably in our four years that we've been there it was one of the days that we just didn't perform. We didn't do anything right on the day and Roscommon were much better than us. You get days like that. It happens to the best of teams."

According to the odds, Terry Hyland & Co are slight favourites going into today's game but that won't concern Evans and his players who failed to justify favouritism against the Yeats County last time out.

The primrose and blues were left with egg on their faces after succumbing to a 0-13 to 1-14 loss.

"We have to be able to handle being favourites," he remarked. "The players are working at it. We've sorted out a few neighbours since I came on the scene but we didn't do the job against Sligo.

"These things happen when you're trying to develop a young team. When we manage it on a consistent basis, we'll have taken a step forward."

Will it be a step forward or backward today?
