Monaghan 1-8

Cavan cruised to a 12-point victory over Monaghan in their Ulster MFC quarter-final, which was played as a curtain-raiser to the senior clash between the local rivals at Kingspan Breffni Park.

The hosts led by 2-9 to 0-6 at half-time thanks to goals from Thomas Edward Donohoe and David Brady. Patrick O'Neill got a goal back for the visitors midway through the second half, but Cavan's victory was never in doubt as they eased into the last four.

Patrick O'Reilly and Eoghan Cooney posted early Cavan points before Frank Connolly opened Monaghan's account. But the Breffni then took charge with points from Darragh Gannon and Ryan O'Neill, and the game's opening goal from Donohue, to lead by 1-4 to 0-1 after 12 minutes.

Robbie Fitzpatrick and James Mealiff traded scores before Donohue and O'Neill extended the hosts' lead. Brady's goal made it 2-9 to 0-4 after 27 minutes. Points from Mealiffe and Fergal Hanratty left nine in it at the interval.

It continued to be one-way traffic in the second half as Cooney and Fitzpatrick extended Cavan's advantage. O'Neill's 45th minute major gave the Farney hope, but an impressive Cavan side were able to close out the game with further scores from Rhys Clarke, James Brady and David Brady.
