50th Birthday of Pairc Naoimh Fionnain

To mark the 50th birthday of Pairc Naoimh Fionnain the the switching on of the new lighting system, a very enjoyable evening to mark the occasion took place in the sports hall on Friday night last.  Attended by many of the Club's supporters, special guest for the occasion was Fr. Brian McNamara who was curate in Coronea in the early 60's and was one of the main instigators in bringing the dream of a new field to fruitiion.  Also special guests on the evening were many of the original committee members and relatives of those who have passed to their eternal reward.  Fr. Donal Hannon was a welcome guest for the occasion.  Many interesting photographs of the actual opening of the field in June 1964 when Cavan played Galway were on  display and over a cup of tea the large attendance swapped stories and reminisced about the past fifty years of Pairc Naoimh Fionnain.  PJ McGlade, Club Chairman, addressed those present thanking everyone for their efforts over the years past and present nad to finalise a very special occasion George Cartwright delivered an excellent oration detailing events surrounding the birth of our football field and also the events that took place on that historic day of the park's official opening in June 1964.  Thanks to everyone who helped to prepare the sportshall for the occasion and also to the ladies who provided the lovely refreshments on the night.
