Cavan Gaels club notes

November 24, 2014

Under-13

Well done to our under-13s who, having defeated Mullahoran and Ballymachugh in the earlier rounds, went on to decisively defeat Crosserlough in the division one final on the 3G pitch at Kingspan Breifne Park on Monday last. This was a welcome victory for a panel of players who continue to show admirable improvement. Well done to the players and team management and thanks to the parents for their consistent support and encouragement. Comhghairdeas.

Senior team

Our seniors were defeated by Kingscourt in the senior league semi-final in Kingscourt on Sunday morning last. Despite being understrength, we held a slender lead in the early stages of the second half but a brace of goals swung the game in the home team's favour. Nevertheless well done to all the players and the management for their trojan efforts this year which culminated in another senior championship title.

AGM

Please note that the AGM of Cavan Gaels will take place on Sunday 7 December at 4pm in the Farnham Arms Hotel. New members welcome. Fáilte roimh cách.

Mental Health

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee of Cavan County Board GAA are hosting a talk in the Hotel Kilmore on Wednesday next 26 November at 7.30pm. The main speaker is Dr Claire Hayes, a native of Cootehill. This talk will of interest to all our club officers, parents, coaches and players and indeed to all our club members. This event is open to the general public. Please make a note of this date in your diary.

The HSE has launched a new mental health initiative called Little Things. It has a five point plan for good mental health which includes advice on keeping active, talking about your problems, looking out for others and drinking less alcohol. Alan O Mara, Cavan GAA player, has urged people to get involved with this initiative. On the same subject the GAA has developed a pack called Play in my Boots in partnership with St Patrick's Mental Health Foundation which is aimed at all who play sport. This pack can be downloaded from the website gaa.ie  People are reminded that there are many resources available dealing with mental health. Use them if you feel the need to. Help is always available. Let's take the stigma out of the subject of mental health. It's ok to say you're not ok.

The Freecall number of the Samaritans is 116123.
