David Givney has opted out of Cavan's senior football panel for next season.
The midfielder, who transferred from his native Mountnugent to Ballymun Kickhams at the start of the year, has informed Cavan boss Terry Hyland that he will be unavailable due to work commitments.
While the news comes as a major blow to the Blues, Hyland is hopeful of persuading the 24-year-old of returning in time for the team's Ulster championship campaign, which begins with a home tie against Monaghan in June.
"David's not going to commit to us next year," Hyland told the Irish News. "He picked up a bad ankle injury with Ballymun and he won't be available until mid-January so he wants a bit of a break.
"He's been at it since he was about 17 and work is a bit of a problem for him at the minute because he has only just started a new job.
"He's going to take a year out, or the early part of the year anyway, we'll come back and talk to him again in February and see where he is at that stage.
He's going to take the National League out anyway."
Cian Mackey is another star on the injured list for Hyland, as he looks to recover from a recurring groin injury which hindered him throughout 2014.
Mackey's Castlerahan club mates Paul Smith and David Wright have joined the panel ahead of 2015, as has Arva full-back James Morris after the county's historic All-Ireland JFC triumph over Kerry this past August.
