Cavan Gaels club notes

November 17, 2014

Senior team

Following our exit from the Ulster club campaign, our seniors renew rivalry with Kingscourt on Sunday next at 12 noon in Virginia when the sides meet in the division 1A semi-final. It was interesting to note that Slaughtneil defeated Clontibret by five points in the Ulster club semi-final on Sunday last!

Under-13

Well done to our under-13s who defeated Ballymachugh in the semi-final recently. They now meet Crosserlough in the final on Monday 17 November on the Kingspan Bréifne Park 3G pitch at 8pm. Club members are asked to come out in big numbers to support their team. Well done also to the players and team management for the progress achieved this year. Go néirí go geal leo.

Cavan Gaels Tornadoes

Coaching for the Cavan Gaels Tornadoes, where the emphasis is on fun and involvement, will now take place indoors in St Patrick's College on Saturday mornings from 11-12. Sincere thanks to our dedicated coaches, led by John Fortune, who are introducing these boys and girls to the rudiments of gaelic football in a safe, stimulating, fun-filled environment. Thanks to all the parents who continue to attend and offer their help. New boys and girls always welcome. Any queries about the Tornadoes can be directed to John Fortune 087-6196002. Rud an-thábhachtach é go mbeimid ábalta freastal ar an óige i gcónai agus go luífidh baill an chluib isteach ar an obair bhunúsach seo.

Mental Health

The HSE has launched a new mental health initiative called Little Things. It has a five point plan for good mental health which includes advice on keeping active, talking about your problems, looking out for others and drinking less alcohol. Alan O Mara, Cavan GAA player, has urged people to get involved with this initiative. On the same subject the GAA has developed a pack called Play in my Boots in partnership with St Patrick's Mental Health Foundation which is aimed at all who play sport. This pack can be downloaded from the website gaa.ie  People are reminded that there are many resources available dealing with mental health. Use them if you feel the need to. Help is always available. Let's take the stigma out of the subject of mental health. It's ok to say you're not ok.

The Freecall number of the Samaritans is 116123.
