It's 17 years since Paul McGirr tragically lost his life in the act of scoring a goal for Tyrone Minors but his spirit lives on through the Ulster Under-16 Club Champions competition organised by Dromore St Dympna's.

The 2014 competition kicked off with a double header of games where Down champions Burren edged out Clann Eireann (Armagh) by 2-10 to 1-12 in a top quality encounter.

"It's a great tournament, you can see with the crowd there is a big interest and it's a great cause as well," says Burren manager Jimmy McAlinden.

Crosserlough from Cavan defeated Derrygonnelly (Fermanagh) in the Preliminary Round tie and they hope that the glory days are on the way back for one of the Breffni county's sleeping giants.

"It's 20 years since we got a team like this," says manager Tom Boylan. "This team hasn't lost a game at any grade, they're a special bunch of fellas."
