Arva clinch league promotion

Arva's Peter Morris

Junior champions Arva gained promotion from Division Two of the All County Football League on Sunday with a comfortable 0-17 to 2-6 victory in Munterconnacht.

The win was Ciaran Brady's team's eighth in nine league games and will see them operating in Division 1B for 2015 after gaining intermediate status earlier this month when they defeated Ballymachugh to capture the Sean Leddy Cup for the first time since 1993.

Points from Conal Sheridan, Fergal McGlade and Kevin Bouchier helped Arva hold the advantage for the first-half, with a penalty at the other end pulling Munterconnacht back into the game just before half-time, with the score at 0-9 to 1-4.

Jonathan McCabe, McGlade and Brian Ellis sent over the scores early in the second-half to cushion the lead back to five before the Munchies plundered in another goal.

Brady's charges had plenty more left in the tank though and raised more white flags through McCabe and Peter Morris which were more than enough to seal the deal for the St Patrick's club.

The Longford border men can now look forward to their Ulster club JFC opener with Donegal champions Urris at Kingspan Breffni Park this Sunday (throw-in 2.30pm).
