Cavan Gaels club notes

October 20, 2014

Division 1A

Our seniors, fresh from their county final championship victory, defeated Ballinagh in their league clash on Saturday evening last in Templeport. Although both sides were short some regulars, they served up an entertaining game. Ballinagh, despite having the  assistance of a very strong wind in the first half, were behind by one point at half time thanks to a Declan Meehan goal. A Paul O Connor goal early in the second half gave the Gaels some breathing space. Ballinagh did rally and converted a penalty but it was the Gaels who won by a seven point margin 3-12 to 1-11.

Ulster Club

Our seniors have an away game against the Derry champions Slaughtneil in the Ulster club championship on Sunday November 2. When we won the St Paul's minor tournament in 1999 we defeated Slaughtneil, managed then by Dermot McNicholl, in the final. Patsy Bradley, current Slaughtneil midfielder,  played at midfield for his club in 1999 and his direct opponent that day was Dominic Reilly, current Cavan Gaels midfielder.

Sympathy

Our sympathy is extended to the family of John Teevan who passed away recently. The late John was closely associated with Cavan Gaels and was a club sponsor for many years. He sponsored club jerseys when he was working in the Crúiscín Lán. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
Sympathy is also extended to Cavan Gaels man Tommy Brides on the recent death of his brother Jimmy. Ar dheis lamh Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
