Girls U8/10 : Congratulations to the Cornafean U8/10 girls on their success at the Tom Dowd memorial blitz in Crosserlough Saturday last with victories over Lurgan, Mullahoran and Ballyhaise.
Girls U13 Final : After a great campaign of matches in the Div 3 Championship with notable victories over Knockbride, Lavey and Lurgan, the Cornafean U 13 girls arrived in the final in Breffni park to play worthy opponents Ballyhaise. After a fine hours football where the reds dominated much of the proceedings except for a strong Ballyhaise resurgence late on, the Reds emerged from the heat of battle five point victors and well deserved. They were great scenes of jubilation from both players and supporters when joint captains Aine Brady and Anna Tully accepted the cup on behalf of the team. Hazel Sheridan in goals was outstanding with some point blank saves to keep the reds in the hunt early on, ably assisted by full backs Anna Smith and Aine Brady both collosous like and determined to let nothing pass. Half backs Siobhan McKiernan and Emma McGahern stood firm against the Ballyhaise attack and McGahern had an outstanding game on a very strong opponent. In the middle of the park Anna Tully and Ciara Smith worked tirelessly breaking up ballyhaise attacks and getting the ball in to the red forward line. Deirbhile McCaffrey's fantastic contribution of 1 goal and 10 pts to the the Reds cause suggests they are on a one trick pony but on the contrary, the contribution of other forwards Mark Kate Gannon, Amy McIntyre and Lucy Hogan who all contributed some great scores and ran the Ballyhaise defence ragged suggests the future is bright for these girls. With lots of coaching and hard work it will not be their last final. Subs to take the field on the evening were Brianna McCaffrey and Edel Brady. The remainder of the panel who also put in a big effort throughout the campaign were Carrie Tully, Grace Smith, Maeve Masterson, Emma Finnegan, Lucy Cullivan, Shauna Flood, Laura Smith and Sarah Cullivan. Congratulations and thank you to team trainers Philip and Jemma Wilson, Miranda McIntyre and Deirdre and Neal Tully for their effort and committment. Final Score on the day Cornafean 2-14 to Ballyhaise 3-06.

GAA : Well done to Cornafean who beat Templeport in a closely fought game to qualify for the semi final of the junior Championship. It was a nervous start by the Reds and indeed it took them ten minutes to register their first score. It remained close until Cornafean managed to go 1 point and then 2 ahead with twelve minutes remaining. In the end the final score was 0-12 to 1-06 in favour of the Reds.
Whist : The next Cornafean whist drive takes place in McSeain's on Monday next 8th of September starting at 9pm sharp. New card players always welcome, with super served.
All Ireland Fleadh : Well done to Eamon Maguire who performed on the Gig Rig at the recent All Ireland Fleadh in Sligo.
