O'Reilly relieved after junior glory

Cavan County Board Chairman Tom Reilly

Cavan's All-Ireland JFC success last Saturday fully vindicated the county's decision to enter the competition according to chairman Tom O'Reilly.

O'Reilly admitted he was disappointed with the low Breffni support in Portlaoise last Saturday but said the 2-14 to 0-14 victory over Kerry augurs well for the future.

"I'm very relieved, there has been criticism of us taking part in the competition and winning an All-Ireland junior meant an awful lot to me coming to the end of my term," he said to the Anglo Celt.

"As the Kerry chairman said to me, you can never get tired of winning All-Ireland finals and they're very disappointed to lose in a competition that a lot of people in Cavan didn't think was worth taking part in.

"Going out there today you saw players starting to blossom. Players like Paul Smith of Castlerahan are starting to come good and they wouldn't have been seen only for his junior competition apart from our own club and domestic scene.

"All those young lads, it was a great performance, they played great football. I'm disappointed that there aren't more Cavan people here to see us winning our first All-Ireland since 1952 but it shows that if we only have patience in Cavan, Cavan will win a hell of a lot more."
