Cavan Gaels club notes

July 28, 2014
Senior Championship
Well done to our senior team who defeated Gowna in the senior championship first round in Bréifne Park on Friday evening last. The first half was a low-scoring affair but the Gaels raced into a lead in the early stages of the second half. Gowna responded and decreased the deficit. A late burst saw us through by four points.

Intermediate Championship

Hard luck to our intermediate team who battled all the way but ultimately had to give way to a stronger and more mature Cootehill team, billed by many as one of the favourites to win the title.

Under-12 Boys

Our under-12s met Drumlane in Milltown recently in the summer league. Again they gave a battling display despite being short some players because of holidays. A stronger finish ensured that the home side came away with the spoils.

Minor Championship

Our minors will play Naomh Bríd(Redhills/Butlersbridge/Drumalee) in the first round of the minor championship in Redhills on Tuesday 19 August at 7.30pm.

Girls' Football

Congratulations to our under-13s who recently kept up their winning ways by defeating Shercock at home. Comhghairdeas.

Gerry Reilly Tournament

Well done to Luke Fortune who lined out with the county under-16 team which had an impressive victory over Dublin on Sunday evening last in the final of the Gerry Reilly tournament in Oldcastle, the 25th anniversary of the tournament. This victory, Cavan's first in this tournament since 2006, was well merited. Cavan's previous wins were in 1997 and 2004. Other Cavan Gaels players on the panel are Jermaine O Rourke and Sebastian Darriba. The team coach is Andy McGovern. Comhghairdeas do gach duine a ghlac páirt ann.
