Cornafean club notes

ACFL Division 2
Cornafean v Bailieboro
Bailieboro 2-12   Cornafean 0-9
Both teams commenced the game in determined fashion and points were exchanged between R. Clarke for the homesters and the Reds Aodghan Smith.  Bailieboro pushed on in determined fashion scoring some good points with Clarke again, P. Clerkin and R. Farrell to the fore and it was the home side who delivered a crucial score approximately 5 minutes before the break when a high ball over the Reds defence let Damien O'Reilly in for a crucial goal.    Cornafean lost Dan Wharton to injury also at this juncture of the game to compound their problems but Cormac Cullen did pop over two frees for Cornfean to leave it Bailieboro 1-8 to the Reds 0-4 at half time.  The Reds regouped for the second half and were working hard to peg back some scores and points were exchanged with J. McGahern and C. Cullen finding their range for Cornafean.  With the Reds scoring the next 3 points from B. Doyle (2) and G. Sheridan on 20 minutes there was a sniff of a comeback but those hopes were quickly dashed minutes later when a high ball into the Reds defence was finished to the net by C. Gilsenan giving the home team a moral boosting victory and unfortunately leaving the Reds with another defeat in the ACFL Division 2.  Hard luck to the Reds who worked hard throughout but unfortunately results are just not happening for the team at the moment.  Hopefully this trend can be reversed when Belturbet come to Pairc Naomh Fionnan on this Friday evening 21st June at 8 p.m.

All in Cornafean wish the Cavan Team and Management  their very best as the Boys in Blue take on Donegal in this  years   eagerly anticipated Ulster Football Final and it would be a fantastic achievement to see the Anglo Celt Cup back in the Breffni County after such a long time.

Ulster Senior Football Semi Final... Cavan Ladies ...2....13.... Donegal ...0....24.  After a Titanic  struggle and a valiant effort from the Cavan girls  in the Ulster Semi Final on Saturday evening last  it was the Ladies from Donegal who eventually prevailed after extra Time to reach the final where they will play Armagh. Cavan were down to 13 players and a point up with a minute left on the clock but Donegal found an equaliser to force extra Time. It was cruel on the Cavan girls who showed excellent  bravery ,skill and commitment throughout what proved to be an outstanding game. Well done to the Team and Management.
