The Late Pat Joe Brady

Cornafean lost one of its oldest residents with the death of Pat Joe Brady, Drumcon. Pat Joe was in his 96th year and died peacefully in Cavan General Hospital on Tuesday 12th Feb surrounded by his wife Anna May and family. He was a very popular person and was great company. Pat Joe was a very talented person and as a teenager he trained as a blacksmith and for many years his 'Forge' was busy looking after the footwear of the Horses and Donkeys of the area. The onset of the tractor in the late 1950's and early 60's changed all that and Pat Joe took up welding and became an expert of the Art

He was employed in Monery Bye-products factory as a fitter for many years. He also farmed in a small way and was very proud of his suckler herd, In later years he took up gardening and the quality of his vegetables was a tribute to him. He was a keen sportsman and for nearly twenty years he wore the Red Jersey of Cornafean with pride. He was a member of the Cornafean team that won the Senior Championship in 1956.

He loved dancing and his favourite was a good Set-Dance. Pat Joe was a truly a legend and leaves many fond memories. He was a great family man and will be sorely missed. He and his wife Anna May recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was also a life long member of the 'Fine Gael' party.  Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Anna May, sons Padraic, Brian and Donal, daughters Marie and Patricia, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchild, relatives and his many friends. Past and present members of Cornafean GFC formed a 'Guard of Honour' at his funeral and his coffin was draped in his favourite Red Jersey. His funeral mass was in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Coronea. Rev Peter Casey officiated assisted by Rev Tom McKiernan. His burial was in Drumcor Cemetery.
