CLUB NOTES

Reserve Reds in Division 2 Championship 2018 Final

Cornafean 0-11   Bailieboro 0-9

Well done to the Reserve Reds who reached the Division 2 Championship Final for 2018 after a gutsy and determined display saw the lads defeat Bailieboro in a wet and cold Paric Naoimh Fionnan on Saturday evening last.  It was the lads sheer hunger and desire which saw them over the line against dogged and strong oppositions in a game which was in the balance right up to the long whistle.  The deluge of rain earlier in the day left the pitch quite heavy and the ball very slippy but both teams worked hard to play some decent football.  The Reds held a slender one point half time lead on a scoreline of 5 pts to 4 with points from J. McGahern (2), C. Cosgrove, A. Smith and W. Johnson.  It was nip and tuck again into the second half with never more than a point between the teams.  James McGahern had his shooting boots on for the Reds and with points from play and frees managed to keep Cornafean's noses in front.  N. Corcoran, B.Sheridan, S. Doyle and E. Brady were playing well in the back line keeping the east Cavan men at bay and C. Cullen and A. Smith around the middle were doing their best to keep the ball in the Reds forward line. With time nearly up and the game deadlocked at 9 pts each James McGahern from a free and Ciaran Cosgrove from play both held their nerve to kick over great points and propel the Reds into the final by a narrow two point margin over a gallant Bailieboro side.  Well done to the panel of players and the management team on all their great efforts in reaching the final.
