Death of Michael O'Brien,

Sincere sympathy is extended to Fr Gerry O'Brien on the death of his brother Michael O'Brien late of Aughanock Cornafean. Michael had been in failing health for some time and spent the last years of his life in Shannon Lodge nursing home Roosky. Michael had farmed all his life in Aughanock where he had a suckler herd. In his younger days Michael was a keen athlete and was a leading member of Cornafean Athletic Club in the 1960's

His funeral was in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Coronea on Friday last 15th June. Fr Gerry was the chief celebrant along with Bishop Francis Duffy, Ardagh and Clonmacnoise diocese and many other priests from Cavan, Leitrim, and Longford. The large attendance at  his funeral was a tribute to his popularity. He is also survived by his cousins and wider family circle.

TV Appearance

Well done to Leanne Coyle. Drumbess on her appearance on TV3's Ireland AM on Thursday morning last.  Leanne with her friend Adam Fitzhenry were speaking about their social media Mental Health Awareness page "Smile for Me".  This social media page launched by Leanne and Adam in early 2018 promotes positive mental well being through posting pictures of different people smiling each day.  People then speak about their own mental health issues and the social medial site has proved to be very popular and a tremendous success.

CLUB NOTES

Bailieboro 1 - 9

Cornafean 1 - 8

Cornafean suffered a narrow one point defeat to their hosts Bailieboro on Sunday afternoon last.  With a tricky wind and a wet ball due to light rain both teams found it hard to get into a rhythm leaving the first half a quite scrappy affair.  The Reds had lots of posession but were not making it count and their hosts took advantage with two early points and an opportunist  goal on the eighteenth minute.  Liam Duignan's point on the nineteenth minute kick started the Reds challenge and points followed from J. McGahern and B. Doyle.  The hosts responded with two more points but Cornafean kept working and were rewarded with points from B. Doyle and L. Duignan and just on the stroke of half time Conor Sheridan bagged a cracking goal to give the Reds a narrow but deserved half time lead.  Bailieoboro had two more points on the board in the early stages of the second half but once again the Reds countered  with good scores from B. Doyle, A. Smith and Emmett Goldrick.  At this stage the Reds needed to push home their advantage but unfortunately lady luck was not with them on Sunday.  The Reds defenders J. Miney, C. Sheridan and P. Woods were inspiring their team with E. goldrick and N. Sheridan in the middle gaining lots of posession bu thte team could not find the killer scores to kill of their hosts.  Instead Bailieboro stole the game with the last 3 points of the match leaving the Reds to rue over their missed changes.  But it was a hard working team effort and no doubt there will be better days ahead with more of the squad returning from injury.  Best for the Reds on the day were J. Miney, B. Sheridan, S. Doyle and C. Sheridan in the back line E. Goldrick around the middle and L. Duignan, B. Doyle and A. Smith up front.

Team R. Geoghegan, P. Woods, J. Miney, B. Sheridan, S. Doyle, A. Wharton, C. Sheridan, E. Goldrick, N. Sheridan, C. Briody, A. Smith, L. Duignan, A. Smith, J. McGahern, B. Doyle,  Subs M. Johnson, W. Johnson, C. Geoghegan.
