Two Carlow clubs are up in arms over having to play the junior A football championship final tonight (Wednesday).

Fenagh and Ballon are set to line out in the county final at Netwatch Cullen Park later on tonight, much to the dismay of both clubs who feel that it is disrespectful to play a final midweek under lights.

"I think it is disgraceful we are playing the final on a Wednesday night of a competition which I think is important. It is a total disregard for supporters, players and everyone," Ballon manager Pat Nolan told the Carlow Nationalist.

"We played our semi-final at 8.30pm on a Friday night. GAA is about family, a community-based organisation and you would like to think we are playing on a level playing field.

"I always say the GAA is a great community organisation. When you are in a final it creates a great buzz. It will be on at 8pm on a Wednesday and youngsters going to school and families won't go."

Carlow chairman Sean Campion stressed there were a number of reasons why the game was scheduled for tonight with the main one being that the winners are in Leinster club JFC action this Saturday.
