St Mullins' manager PJ Delaney admitted it was a relief to pick up their first win in the SHC.

Having drawn and lost their opening two matches, St Mullins were under pressure to maintain their push for a coveted fourth consecutive title.

However, a 3-27 to 0-10 demolition of Erin's Own has them nicely poised heading into the next round and Delaney told the Carlow Nationalist that the performance was a marked improvement on their previous outings.

"It was poor in the last match and a team with ambitions wouldn't be happy with that. That is gone, but so is this one," stressed Delaney.

"We are happy with the manner of the victory. There was good energy and good effort. It takes hunger, it takes character and we are going to need every single bit of it for the rest of the year."
