Darragh Foley wants Carlow to kick on after their superb 2017 championship campaign.

The Barrowsiders enjoyed their best summer since storming to their only Leinster title in 1944, recording victories over Wexford, London and Leitrim as well as giving a good account of themselves in defeat against both Dublin and Monaghan.

Reflecting on last weekend's Qualifier against the Farney County, Foley tells The Irish Daily Mirror: "Coming into the game, we were confident that we could pull it off, especially in Dr Cullen Park. The support we have been getting has been unbelievable and just seeing what it means to Carlow people to finally have something to cheer on, it's huge.

"We don't want to be a flash in the pan, a team that got a good run in the Qualifiers one year. We want to be a team that progresses and takes inspiration from Monaghan.

"They wouldn't be the biggeest populated county in the country but they really make the most of what they have there. That's the aim, to get to their level. I thought we showed that we are really, really close to it."
