Carlow manager Pat English has informed the county board that he will not be seeking a third year in the position after a number of players told the county board it was time for a change.
English is the latest inter-county manager to step down from his position and the Carlow County Board now begin the process of finding a replacement.
The Carlow Nationalist reports that a number of the county senior hurling panel met with county board officials recently to state that there was a need for change in the management set up.
This left English with no option but to step down and Carlow chairman Sean Campion paid tribute to the work done by the outgoing manager.
"It is a big task when you are manager of your own county team. With only six to seven clubs that is a lot of added pressure," said Campion.
"In November, December and January a lot of energy was spent trying to get in players."
He added: "His term was up. We spoke at length. We had a good meeting with him. I would be sorry for him the way things worked out. He is one of the strong hurling men in the county."
Carlow will now begin the process of appointing a new manager with Kilkenny native Martin Fogarty in his role as National Hurling Officer expected to be consulted about the role.
