Waterford IT inflicted a comprehensive 3-13 to 0-9 defeat on hosts IT Carlow this evening.

The reigning champions led from start to finish, with Austin Gleeson pouncing for the games opening goal on 27 minutes to give them a 1-10 to 0-4 half time lead.

With the breeze at their backs, things got worse for DJ Carey's IT Carlow side in the second half when Liam McGrath found the net to make it 2-11 to 0-5.

A third goal on 58 minutes from substitute Ciaran O'Brien rounded off a superb display from the holders in difficult conditions.

The other Group C game between Maynooth University and Mary Immaculate was called off due to an unplayable pitch at the Kildare college.
