Carlow manager Turlough O'Brien admits that there is an air of optimism creeping through the county.

Some decent performances in the O'Byrne Cup have bred a new lease of life into not only the players, but the management and supporters also.

The Barrowsiders head to Antrim for the opening Division Four league match this weekend and O'Brien admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that it is going to be a tough division.

"The O'Byrne Cup is preparation and we have prepared well and are looking forward to the start of the league. It is nice to hear that people are more hopeful. That is testament to what the lads have put in," said O'Brien.

"At the end of the day, Division 4 is a place where nobody wants to be and it is going to Cup games that our opposition in Division 4 are performing well. Waterford beat Cork last week and Offaly are flying."
