Carlow joint-captain Seamus Murphy is looking forward to the prospect of playing Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup on Sunday.

Murphy could be forgiven for feeling daunted by the task, but it is the exact opposite as he welcomes the challenge of the All-Ireland champions.

"It is good to play Kilkenny," Murphy stressed to the Carlow Nationalist. "It isn't often that you get a chance to play the All-Ireland champions but having said that, we have our own things which we need to work on. It is only pre-season and we need to be able to have those things come good for us.

"We are trying to get ready for the league and we have been trying out little things. Hopefully on Sunday we will have those and we need to improve on them as well."

Carlow drew with NUIG in their opening Walsh Cup clash and they will be eager to put up a decent display against their neighbours, who are sure to give a number of fringe players a run out.
