O'Mahony explains role

Mayo manager John O'Mahony

John O'Mahony has explained what his role with Carlow senior footballers will entail.

The former Galway All-Ireland winning manager has taken on an 'advisory' role where he will work alongside newly appointed manager Turlough O'Brien.

"It is important here that my role will not be at training every night. The reality is that if I wasn't doing the job I am doing as a TD, then I would probably be a full time manager somewhere," O'Mahony told the Carlow Nationalist.

"I want to be able to do and commit to whatever I can do. Some of the advice, I can give will be away from the training field. Turlough will dictate what role I have."

O'Brien was part of Anthony Rainbow's management team this year and he the Eire Og supremo takes over from the former Kildare footballer as the Barrowsiders look to improve on this year's performances.
