Rainbow backs players

Carlow footballers.
Carlow manager Anthony Rainbow believes that he could not ask anymore of the players that are currently on the squad.

Football in the county is at a low ebb at the moment following the heavy defeat to Meath in the Leinster SFC, aligned with the fact that many of county's best players won't make themselves available to the county team.

However, Rainbow is proud of the players that he has at his disposal and stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that they can't be faulted for effort.

"I think this bunch of players is doing an awful amount of things right," stressed Rainbow. "They all turned up for training and they are passionate about the jersey and want to win for Carlow.

"You have to remember we were playing a quality team in Meath who ran Dublin close in last year's Leinster final. You cannot get away from that fact. No matter how you say it, you cannot dress it up in anyway.

"I have pride and passion for this bunch of players I have in here at the moment. It is the players that are not in here that I am a bit annoyed about. You have to give these guys credit. They want to play for Carlow. They want to win for Carlow. They want to wear that jersey and there are some lads in the county that don't."
