Carlow club determined to deter thieves

A Carlow GAA club has vowed to do everything possible to stop thieves targeting their grounds following a spate of incidents at the venue.

Only last week, the Tinryland GAA grounds were targeted by thieves as a match between Kilkenny teams Young Ireland's and O'Loughlin Gaels' took place.

This was not the first time that the club had been the victim of crime and Tinryland chairman Peenie Whelan admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that it won't be easy to stop the thefts, but added that they will do all they can to do so.

"The motorway is making it too easy," said Whelan. "That's a big factor for us. There are so many checkpoints on it to stop people but the thieves are so brazen.

"You just can't leave stuff unattended and we're going to have to man the area. Clubs don't have the money and this is now going to cost the clubs even more. It's terribly disappointing to see it happening."
