DJ and Rathvilly launch Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention Policy

Rathvilly GAA club had a very enjoyable launch of our Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention Policy last night in Rathvilly Primary School.

Special guest DJ Carey gave an inspirational talk to the gathering of Rathvilly GAA committee, players and supporters.

Brian O'Donoghue acted as MC for the evening and Donal Kelly Club Chairman welcomed Fr. Michael Kelly, DJ Carey and guests.

Rathvilly GAA club are the first club in County Carlow, the second club in Leinster and the third club in Ireland, to promote 'Sort it out - ASAP' on their jerseys.

Stephen Murphy, Rathvilly Senior Player and Máire Kelly Rathvilly Ladies Footballer, addressed the meeting outlining their experience playing sport and GAA in particular. Stephen is a non-drinker and Máire is a member of Pioneers. Tommy Murphy County Carlow ASAP officer highlighted that the GAA are now organising a programme to promote health and wellbeing for all players and he complimented Rathvilly GAA club for having launched their policy. DJ Carey gave a very personal story on how his illness has not hindered him in still playing hurling and playing handball at All Ireland standard. DJ Carey took the pledge at 12 year of age and has still keeps it today . He finished his talk by encouraging all young people to follow their talents whether it be in sport or in other activities. Everyone has talents and life is about making the most of them he says.
