Rathdowney-Errill manager John Delaney wasn't surprised by St Mullins' Leinster club SHC quarter-final victory over Cuala.

The Laois champions will face the Carlow giantkillers for a place in the provincial final at Netwatch Cullen Park in two weeks' time after they enjoyed a surprisingly comfortable victory over St Rynagh's yesterday. Speaking to Laois Today, Delaney recalled being highly impressed by Mount Leinster Rangers - who St Mullins defeated by a point in the Carlow SHC final - when Rathdowney-Errill played them in a challenge match earlier this year.

“Okay Cuala are gone, but St Mullins beat Mount Leinster Rangers. We played them during the year and I was sure they were going to have a real whack at the Leinster championship. I can guarantee you that will be another battle (against St Mullins),” he said.

Delaney declared himself satisfied with his side's 4-16 to 0-10 victory over the Offaly winners.

“We’ve always performed in Leinster, but I said during the week that I’m sick of what could have or what could happen. We just had to get over the line some way. That was a tough dogged affair today but we came out on top and I’m delighted.”
