Carlow manager Turlough O’Brien has stressed that consolidating their place in NFL Division Three will be their main priority this year.

For the first time in over 30 years, the Barrowsiders will ply their trade in Division 3 of the National Football League, and O’Brien feels that they need to ensure they are not relegated straight back to the bottom tier.

Speaking to the Carlow Nationalist following their O’Byrne Cup defeat to Kildare last weekend, O’Brien is eager for his side to compete in the league.

“The number one priority is to stay in Division 3, to set ourselves down and see if we can compete at this level,” said O’Brien. “We will have to be on top of our game and get a good start to the league.”

Carlow begin their 2019 NFL campaign with a home clash against Sligo on Sunday, January 27th in a game that O’Brien will have earmarked that they could win.
