Division 1 of the Allianz HL could comprise the top 12 teams in the country under a new proposal from Central Council.

The 2019 league placings will determine the groupings in a change to the current format which sees the top six teams in Division 1A and the six counties below that in Division 1B.

The new format would see Division 1 split into two Groups of even strength.

Group A in 2020 would include: 1st placed team 2019 Division 1A, 4th placed team 2019 Division 1A, Winner of Division 1A relegation playoff, 2nd placed team 2019 Division 1B, 3rd placed team 2019 Division 1B, Promoted 2019 Division 2A team.

Group B in 2020 would include: 2nd placed team 2019 Division 1A, 3rd placed team 2019 Division 1A, Loser of Division 1A relegation playoff, 1st placed team 2019 Division 2B, 4th placed team 2019 Division 1B, 5th placed team in 2019 Division 1B.

The top team from each group would go directly to a league semi-final with the second and third placed teams contesting the quarter-finals.

The bottom teams in each group would contest a relegation playoff with the loser replaced by the Division 2 winner.
