Carlow SHC final: Rangers rally to retain crown

October 14, 2018

Carlow's Chris Nolan in action for Mount Leinster Rangers.

Mount Leinster Rangers 3-10

St Mullins 1-13

Holders Mount Leinster Rangers came from behind to defeat 14-man St Mullins and win an eighth Carlow SHC title at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Chris Nolan bagged 1-3 in a man of the match performance, with his goal coming after just two minutes. That was cancelled out by a St Mullins goal from a Marty Kavanagh penalty, but a second Rangers major from Denis Murphy had the champions 2-5 to 1-7 ahead at the break.

Despite having their captain Seamus Murphy red-carded in the 42nd minute, St Mullins were on course for a 27th title when they led by 1-13 to 2-7 with nine minutes remaining. However, an Eddie Byrne goal turned the tide in Rangers' favour as late points from Nolan and Kevin McDonald (free) secured the spoils for them.
