Turlough O'Brien is staying on as Carlow senior football manager for another season.

O'Brien was appointed by the Barrowsiders in September 2014 - making him one of the longest-serving intercounty managers in gaelic football - and has overseen a period of tremendous progress.

Last year, he guided the county out of Division Four for the first time in 33 years and oversaw a first Leinster SFC victory over Kildare since 1953.

Only Jim Gavin, Malachy O'Rourke and Mickey Harte have been at their respective helms longer than the keen cycling enthusiast, who was appointed one week before Galway boss Kevin Walsh.

Like his hurling counterpart Colm Bonnar, O'Brien will be ratified by the Carlow County Committee, with the respective backroom teams to be announced in due course.
