Limerick's Seamus Flanagan gets there ahead of Carlow's Michael Doyle

Limerick had little trouble sealing an All-Ireland SHC quarter-final berth, dispatching Carlow at Dr Cullen Park - 5-22 to 0-13.

The Treaty County can now look forward to a date with the losers of tomorrow's Leinster final replay, a game which will take place next weekend.

The inaugural Joe McDonagh Cup winners were outclassed from start to finish and they trailed by 14 points at the break, 3-9 to 0-4. Kyle Hayes netted inside 30 seconds but the lead was just three points after 15 minutes, 1-3 to 0-3.

John Kiely's men then got moving to put the game to bed with a run of 2-6 without reply, including goals from Graeme Mulcahy and Aaron Gillane in the 18th and 19th minutes respectively.

Diarmaid Byrnes netted the fourth Treaty major 19 minutes into the second half, propelling his side into a 19-point lead, 4-14 to 0-7. When Peter Casey slotted the fifth, it was 5-15 to 0-10 with ten minutes remaining. By the time the final whistle sounded, eleven different Limerick men had scored, Gillane the top scorer with 1-6, while Tom Morrissey raised five white flags.

Carlow's top scorer was Denis Murphy with four points from placed balls. Their season is over, but with silverware and promotion to next summer's Leinster championship secured.
