Carlow manager Colm Bonnar welcomes the huge challenge facing his side when they take on Limerick in the All-Ireland SHC preliminary quarterfinal on Saturday evening.

The newly crowned Joe McDonagh Cup champions must put their celebrations to one side and focus on the clash against the Shannonsiders at Netwatch Cullen Park.

Limerick go into the game as strong favourites to progress to the quarterfinal as they look to get their campaign back on track.

Bonnar knows that they will be keen to lay down a marker, but he wants his charges to produce a performance and see where that will take them.

"It is a huge test for us," Bonnar told the Carlow Nationalist. "Obviously Limerick have been waiting for us over the past three to four weeks. It is a massive, massive game for them because they will have had eyes on the bigger prize in terms of the Liam MacCarthy. They will be looking to push us aside very quickly.

"They will come down very focussed and will give it a hell of a rattle. Having said that, we need to be able to stand up to that and match what they throw at us.

"It will be a good indication of what we need to do going forward. It is in Netwatch Cullen Park. You can never write off this team and if they get the bit between the teeth who knows what might happen."
