Once again Ballybrown are the City Bank of Ireland Insurance Investment intermediate hurling champions following their twelve point victory over Patrickswell last Saturday evening at Clarina.
Ballybrown who won this competition in 2006 and 2007 made it three City championship victories in a row Patrickswell had no answer for the well drilled Clarina team who ran out winners by 0-21 to 0-09Michael Kiely at corner forward, Des Kenny at centre back and Ritchie Kenny at centre forward played well on the night for the winners. City board chairman Paddy Verdon presented the Duggan Cup to Des Kenny captain of the Ballybrown team.
In the Permanent tsb 24 Sarsfield St. City junior A hurling championship round two Na Piarsaigh recorded their second win in the championship with a very convincing win over Ballybrown 3-21 to 3-05 at Rathbane this is Ballybrown second defeat in the championship and if they have any ambitions in reaching the knockout stages they must win their remaining games meanwhile the Cahirdavin side still unbeaten, followed up their first round win with this sixteen point victory and now must be almost certain of reaching the knockout stages.
In the second championship game played last weekend Old Christians got back to winning ways when they recorded a three point victory over St. Patrick's 2-15 to 2-12 at Cahirdavin this game turn out to be a very entertaining game with both sides putting in a 100% effort to try and get a result, but with the Rathbane side, who were defeated in the first round by Na Piarsaigh had to get a result from this game and they did.
The only sad note coming from this game was a serious leg injury to Old Christians Mossy Body in the last minute of the game all at the City G.A.A. board would like to wish Mossy Body a speedy recovery to fitness and many thanks to the Na Piarsaigh Club for their assistance with the injured player.
In the Horse and Hound Bar Mulgrave St. City junior B hurling championship Pallaskenry received a walkover from Crecora at the weekend and in the Naughtons Fuel & Oil Annacotty City Minor Football Championship Na Piarsaigh had a 3-10 to Kilullta Gaels 0-07 victory play at Cahirdavin last Monday evening
Kilullta Gaels team and Scorers were as follows Team: Stephen Hodnett, Brian Howard, Cian hayes, Jack O'Connell, Mike Delap, Lorcan Fitzgerald, David Keating, Ronan Liston, Darren Walshe, Ciaran Ryan (0-01), James Carey (0-01), Shane O'Brien (0-03), Jason Cahalane (0-01), Daniel Hannon (0-01), Peter Nash. Subs used were Chris McMahon, Danny Lynch and Marc Doyle.
This weekend the board has a number of championship games to be played first up is the Naughtons Fuel & Oil Annacotty Minor Football Championship round 4 game between Na Piarsaigh and Ballybrown on this Friday evening in Cahirdavin at 7.30 then on Saturday afternoon round 3 of the Permanent tsb 24 Sarsfield St. City junior A hurling championship between Crecora and Na Piarsaigh take place at 4.30pm in Rhebogue.
On this Sunday at 12 noon in the Horse and Hound Bar Mulgrave St. City junior B hurling championship Milford will face Crecora at Roselawn and Kildimo will entertain Abbey Sarsfields, than at 7.30pm that evening Mungret will open their championship with a home game with unbeaten Pallaskenry.
Well done to the Limerick senior footballers for putting a great display of football and came away with a great result against Meath last Saturday evening and we at the City board would like to wish the Senior footballers the best again for this Saturday evening when they will take on Kildare in the next stage of the qualifiers.
