Cul Camps The VHI Cul Camps will be held in Hollymount on August 18th - 22nd inclusive. Contact Noel Feeney for further information. U21 Hurling Shels dig deep for victory Trailing by 8 points at the interval, Shelmaliers fought hard to overcome Oulart/The Ballagh by the smallest of margins, in Oulart on Monday night 14th July, in this knockout tournament. Clive Lawler Ryan goaled in injury time to level the match and minor Joe Kelly pointed to bring victory to the Shels by a single point. A good overall performance by the whole team in the 2nd half saw them through. Ciaran Walsh between the posts, Eoin Doyle, Benny Barron, and Jamie Horan amongst those to shine on the day. Final score 1-14 to 1-13 U16 Hurling: V Rapparees in Hollymount 14th July. This was the first game after the Junior cert. break, and after a good challenge game in Thomastown the previous week the lads were well set up for a good performance in this must-win game. First Half: The opening ten minutes were tight as both teams sought to get to grips with the game. The hurling right through the game was tough and uncompromising. As the game wore on however the Shels opened up the game. Good combined play brought score after score, with fine points in this period from James Gordon, Brian Murphy, Shane Birney, Johnny Campbell, Stephen Corrigan and Feargal Hynes. Half-time score: Shels 0-10: Rapparees 0-1. Although we let the pace dip somewhat in the opening period of the second half we remained well on top. Further points from Dean Corrigan, Stephen Corrigan Páraic O' Leary and Feargal Hynes kept us ticking over, while the Rapps scored a further two points, with a late goal from a free putting a decent gloss on the scoreline. Final Score 0-15 to 1-2 County Scene The county U15 and U16 Football teams traveled to Durrow and DCU Saturday 19th July. On the U15 team, Paraic O'Leary, , Craig McCabe(both Captains), Shane Bierney and Glen Murphy all participated in the Durrow tournament where they beat Offaly and lost out to Meath. Shane Griffith (Captain) played on the U16 team at corner back for their two matches V Longford and Louth. They beat Longford and despite leading for 99% of the match against Louth, lost by a single point as they conceded a goal and a point in the final minute of the game.
