Ryan eager to maintain winning run
July 20, 2008
Jason Ryan says the Wexford players will be doing everything in their power to maintain their unbeaten record since the start of the year in today's Leinster SFC final against Dublin.
The Slaneysiders' remarkable unbeaten run under their youthful manager has seen them capture the NFL Division 3 title and take the scalps of Meath and Laois en route to a first provincial final appearance in 52 years.
"Winning games and getting results gives you the self-belief. They're the only unbeaten team in the country and they're very proud of that and they will want to maintain that and will do their utmost to do it," the Waterford native said.
"The comeback against Meath raised the confidence but it's not the first time they've done that this year. They've got some brilliant results as the year has gone by and they've worked very hard for it.
"It's due reward for the work they've put in over the years."
Ryan insists that the players' feet are firmly on the ground ahead of the county's biggest game in over half-a-century.
"There is confidence in the camp but there's also a realism that it's going to be a very difficult game.
"We're not going in thinking that Dublin are going to be an easy side. They're a very good team and will be difficult to beat. We're playing against a team that has dominated Leinster for quite some time."
