Laois looking to maintain McCarthy Cup status
July 18, 2008
Laois manager Niall Rigney believes his side have nothing to fear against Antrim this weekend if they can put in a performance that mirrors that of their defeat to Galway.
The O'Moore men face Antrim this Saturday at Navan in a relegation encounter to decide which side will remain in the Liam McCarthy Cup next year, and Rigney thinks that the same approach against the Tribesmen in their previous outing will need to be taken of they are to get a result against the Ulster Champions.
"The Galway game was about standing up and fighting for every ball, and the lads did that for the full 70 minutes. We'll approach this game the very same, and the lads won't fear anyone.
Speaking on the opposition, the Laois boss conceded that the Saffrons will more than likely be favourites going into the game but thinks with a bit of support behind them at Pairc Tailteann they should have every chance of causing an upset.
"I've watched their two games on DVD and they are a big strong team, and they will have that advantage on us. Antrim are probably going to be favourites fro the game, so we have nothing to lose and we'll be going to Navan very much up for the game."
"The lads have worked really hard in the last few weeks, I couldn't ask for more from them, and it would be great to get a bit of support in Navan this weekend."
