Minor hurlers face Galway in headquarters
July 18, 2008
The Wexford minor hurlers have been drawn to meet Galway in the All-Ireland quarterfinal on Saturday week in a bill that includes Munster runners-up taking on Antrim.
When the teams last met in the championship series, despite a blistering start the Purple and Gold lads were forced to give way to the Tribesman by 3-13 to 1-11, one of the stars that day was Joe Canning. Galway were rewarded in retaining their All-Ireland crown. The Westerners were badly crushed by Cork last year on a score of 2-19 to 0-8 and Tipperary eventually too the title.
Tom Dempsey reports that the squad got together last Saturday and he stresses that while Galway have not had a competitive game so far 'we will really have to be on top our game' against a side with so much tradition of late in minor hurling.
