Double header at Arklow

July 18, 2008
It is not that often the county senior footballer and hurlers get to share the same stage and so there promises to be an interesting evening's entertainment in Arklow on Saturday with the hurlers who last weekend surprised Westmeath in action at 17.00 while two hours later Arthur French goes in search of the retention of the Tommy Murphy Cup. Mayo having beaten Kerry will pay little heed to Wicklow's recent success and will be anxious to beat the Garden County as they did in this competition two years ago. In fact in the last meeting of the sides at Arklow, the home side had just two points to spare. Waterford are quite well able to spring a surprise on occasion and Arthur French will be quite wary of the Deise men. John Kiely's men punished Antrim on the last day of the National League campaign last year and some years previously scuttled the promotion prospects of Cavan who at the time only needed a draw.
