U21 Hurling Shels dig deep for victory
Trailing by 8 points at the interval, Shelmaliers fought hard to overcome Oulart/The Ballagh by the smallest of margins, in Oulart on Monday night. Clive Lawler Ryan goaled in injury time to level the match and minor Joe Kelly pointed to bring victory to the Shels by a single point. Eoin Doyle being a major contributor to the game throughout.
U16 Hurling: V Rapparees in Hollymount 14th July.
This was the first game after the Junior cert. break, and after a good challenge game in Thomastown the previous week the lads were well set up for a good performance in this must-win game.
First Half: The opening ten minutes were tight as both teams sought to get to grips with the game. The hurling right through the game was tough and uncompromising. As the game wore on however the Shels opened up the game. Good combined play brought score after score, with fine points in this period from James Gordon, Brian Murphy, Shane Birney, Johnny Campbell, Stephen Corrigan and Feargal Hynes.
Half-time score: Shels 0-10: Rapparees 0-1.
Although we let the pace dip somewhat in the opening period of the second half we remained well on top. Further points from Dean Corrigan, Stephen Corrigan Páraic O' Leary and Feargal Hynes kept us ticking over, while the Rapps scored a further two points, with a late goal from a free putting a decent gloss on the scoreline.
Final Score 0-15 to 1-2
County Duty:
U15 Hurling
In a busy week for county teams, Shels were well represented in Leinster tournaments.
In Croke Park on Thursday, Conor Tobin and Shane Birney participated at full back and wing forward respectively. Wexford won out, beating teams from Dublin and Kilkenny.
U16 Hurling
In Thomastown on Saturday, the Wexford U16 team played teams from Kilkenny, Dublin and Westmeath. James Gordon and Shane Griffith played at centre forward and corner back and assisted Wexford's win on the day. James scoring 1-3 in total, aiding Wexford in winning all three games. Feargal Hynes travelled with the team but was unable to play owing to a hand injury. Stephen Corrigan was on holiday.
In Dicksboro, Aidan Cash captained Wexford's second team and he scored a goal to assist Wexford's win over Kilkenny and Westmeath, only going down to Offaly on the day.
U15 Football
Glen Murphy, Paraic O'Leary, Craig McCabe, AJ Lehane and Shane Birney all travelled to Killarney, this week, for an intensive training and bonding session with the county team. The boys found this to be of great benefit and an enjoyable time was had by all.
Senior Football
The two Shelmalier senior football teams had a useful workout on Sunday morning against St. Fintan's at Hollymount. This game was played in near perfect conditions and manager Tom Tynan was happy with how the two teams are progressing.
Leinster Final
Shelmaliers wish our two senior representatives all the best for the upcoming Leinster final V Dublin in Croke Park this Sunday 20th July. David Walsh and Brian Malone have featured in all the games to this point and are sure to be a force to be reckoned with on the day. For ticket info, visit our web page www.shelmaliers.ie
