Mick O'Dwyer has ended speculation about his future by confirming he will be remaining in charge of the Wicklow footballers for another year.
The news has been greeted with both relief and delight in the Garden County, with county board officials having made no secret of their desire to retain the services of the Waterville legend for a third season. O'Dwyer had refused to be drawn on whether he would remain at the helm after the Leinster SFC quarter-final defeat to Laois earlier this summer, and had once again handed over the reins to his assistant Arthur French for the duration of the Tommy Murphy Cup.
But he addressed the squad on Monday night and confirmed that he will manage the team next year.
The 73-year-old has made great progress with the Leinster minnows over the past two seasons and guided them to a first ever Leinster championship victory at Croke Park at Kildare's expense in May. Wicklow begin their defence of the Tommy Murphy Cup on Saturday when they face Waterford
