Walsh staying with Wicklow

July 09, 2008
Recent reports suggesting that Thomas Walsh had quit the Wicklow football panel have proven wide of the mark after he turned up for training ahead of the county's Tommy Murphy Cup campaign this week. Speculation was rife in the Garden County that the highly-rated midfielder was on the brink of returning to his native Carlow after he failed to line out for Bray Emmets in their first two matches of the local senior football championship. However, it has since emerged that Walsh was injured for these games. Walsh has been a key player for Wicklow since his controversial transfer from Carlow last year. Wicklow manager Mick O'Dwyer has again handed over the reins to selector Arthur French for the duration of the Tommy Murphy Cup as the Garden County bid to put together back-to-back titles. They begin the defence of their crown on Saturday week, July 19, with a home game against Waterford.
