Munster Council introduces new ticket scheme
July 01, 2008
The Munster Council is to introduce a new ticket scheme for Sunday's Munster SFC final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh in a bid to boost falling attendances in the province.
Despite Croke Park insisting last week that championship attendances are holding firm, attendances at Munster football and hurling fixtures this year have been significantly down on previous years, and in an effort to reverse this trend, the provincial body are undertaking numerous strategies to get more supporters through the turnstiles, with one of these being a pilot "two for one" ticket scheme.
Munster Council PRO Jim Forbes explained: "At an officers meeting last week, it was agreed we should do a small promotion with Ticketmaster for the Munster final on Sunday. I believe this is known as the 'early bird' offer. It is limited to a very small number of tickets and only to those purchasing via the internet. These types of things are being used in other sports and very successfully."
If the pilot scheme is successful, Forbes said the Council will consider extending the scheme to traditional ticket purchases.
"It would be nice to do this for all our members and not just those who buy their tickets on the internet. And that is something that we would like to look at down the road," he added.
