Cork board to probe mass brawl
July 01, 2008
Cork county board are to launch an investigation into the violent scenes which marred the end of last weekend's county senior football clash between Na Piarsaigh and Doheny's.
The game was tied at 0-11 each when former inter-county referee Ger Harrington decided to throw-in the ball after he had originally awarded city side Na Piarsaigh a free. This led to a mass melee involving players, substitutes and mentors. The row lasted about a minute and the county board are expected to take disciplinary action once they have studied the content of the referee's report.
The Na Piarsaigh team featured Cork hurling stars John Gardiner and Sean Og O hAilpin, but it's understood that neither of them were involved in the bust-up.
