Murphy: Dropped Cork players 'unlucky'

June 13, 2008
Nicholas Murphy has admitted his regular midfield partner Derek Kavanagh and ace attacker James Masters were 'unlucky' to miss out on selection for Cork's Munster SFC semi-final against Limerick on Sunday. New manager Conor Counihan has included just seven survivors from the side which suffered a crushing defeat to Kerry in last year's All-Ireland final, with four players making their championship debuts. But despite the wholesale changes, Murphy is predicting that the players who missed out on this occasion will still have a major role to play in Cork's championship campaign. "There are changes in every team but Derek is unlucky this year. He came in after Nemo (who reached the All-Ireland club final in March) this year with a couple of injuries so he missed out on a lot. But he is back and he is flying again, so every fella will get an opportunity," the Carrigaline man said. "There is a good panel there now so any fella that has started is there on merit. James Masters is just unfortunate that he didn't make it this time around but, hopefully, we will win on Sunday and there will be another game for him after that."
