McCloskey looking forward to New York trip

May 09, 2008
Leitrim football captain Gary McCloskey says he's looking forward to making the 3,000 mile trip to take on New York in Gaelic Park for his side's Connacht SFC opener. The Bornacoola man missed out on the same fixture five years ago due to work commitments, but admits he's relishing the opportunity this time round. "Absolutely, I'm looking forward to it. I wasn't there five years ago, work commitments took over. It's going to be a tough game or so they tell us." McCloskey concedes that this year's NFL campaign was a major disappointment for Dessie Dolan's men and feels that the New York game is a chance to put things right for his side. "The league was a big disappointment for us this year," said McCloskey. "We were hoping at least to make mid-table but it just didn't work out that way for us. The Fermanagh game was a big disappointment; we felt we should have got two points out of it. But decisions didn't go for us and the team didn't perform on the day." "But New York is a great way to pick ourselves up and if we can get a win out in New York, it will set us up for either Galway or Roscommon."
