Collins ruled out for season
May 09, 2008
Galway's hurling championship hopes have been dealt a major blow with confirmation that captain David Collins has been ruled out for the season.
The Liam Mellowes clubman dislocated his ankle playing for Connacht in the Inter-provincial final at Croke Park last October, and has been told by medics that his season is over.
He said: "It is heartbreaking to get the final word on it, to know for sure that I am out. It's just a tough one to take.
"The bruising wasn't going down and it wasn't feeling good. But things happen for a reason so I will just have to deal with it."
The classy defender received the bad news less than 24 hours after expressing the hope that he would be able to play some part in the championship.
