Exiles an unknown quantity for Leitrim

May 09, 2008
Leitrim manager Dessie Dolan admits that he knows little or nothing about Sunday's Connacht SFC opponents New York. The Westmeath man overcame his fear of flying by crossing the Atlantic with the rest of the travelling Leitrim party on Thursday, but it is very much a trip into the unknown for the Ridge County. Dolan admitted: "We haven't a clue about them really. "We've heard all sorts of rumours about them flying over this player and that player but we have to prepare for the game the same as if we're playing Galway or Mayo or Roscommon. "A lot of them would have played inter-county football at some level so their skill level should be as good as anybody else. Perhaps the only question could be over their fitness levels but 10 or 15 minutes into a match we will probably know what kind of challenge they're going to put up to us." Dolan won't announce his line-up until the day of the game because of injuries to James Glancy (recovering from a broken leg), Michael Duignan (broken cheekbone) and John McKeon (hamstring). "We will give them until the last minute because we have a very small pick of players," he said. "We don't have 30 players of equal standard and that is probably the main difference between a county like Leitrim and the big counties. "When you go to numbers 16, 17, 18 and 19 they're not as good as the first 15 so you have to try and get a pattern of play built up that everyone is familiar with."
